Sorry for the long delay in writing. I have been swamped with the work and details of opening the Ekahi Center for Yoga and Mindfulness in Kelowna, BC. It has been a tiring, stressful, emotional, joyous, exhilarating ride and now we have just finished our first official week of being open.
Prior to starting this latest venture, my practice of daily meditation and exercise was consistent. I was preparing myself for the start of the construction of our center. I knew it would be a challenge to my systems. I wondered would I be able to stick to my systems and routines once the stress reached 10/10. Sadly, I must admit, I was not able to maintain the systems.
By the second straight week of 18 hour days of setting up, training, interviewing, training, cleaning, meeting advertising companies, building website, and social media I was gassed. Each night my partner and I would flop into bed, barely able to utter a “goodnight”. Like a wave, it seems after our first official opening week, we are feeling the ride back up. We are able to occasionally ride our bikes to our new center and even take a yoga or surfboard class from some of our amazing instructors.
As with our personal systems, this past week has also been about testing the systems at work. We put a lot of thought into our systems like greeting clients, touring clients, cleaning schedule, and opening and closing routines but even with our best intentions, our systems needed to be changed on the fly. This past week has made me realize two things: 1) no matter how rough things feel at this moment, calm water is always around the bend; 2) when your systems are stressed and tested, be prepared to make changes quickly so all is not lost.
I have attached a few pics of our center so you can see what we have been up to.
If you get a chance to visit us 1304 Water Street, Kelowna, BC, we would love to see you.
If not, I encourage you to check out our shiny new website for the center: www.ekahicenter.com
I intend to get my systems back in place this week and one of those systems is regular writing.
